3D laser scanners
Today our bosses had a vendor come in to demonstrate some pretty amazing technology. A 3D laser scanner. The core of idea behind this technology is that you can take any object and create a 3D model out of it simply by "painting" the object with this laser. The laser figures out all of the geometery and creates a computer model of the object. Basically it takes a point every .001 of an inch and then stitches the points together to make surfaces. To nerds, this is very impressive.
So my co-worker in crime and I are walking out of the demo and he turns to me and says "Man, you remember how everyone used to scan their butts on copy machines when they became mainstream? Imagine what you could scan with that!!"
$180,000 3D scanner and all he can think about it what unmentionables he could scan with it.
